Based on the WHO's definition of wellness, there are many elements that comprise our well-being. Some may seem obvious like, don't smoke or get a good night's sleep but others may not be so apparent. Here are a few steps you should include on your wellness journey.
Awareness - A person who is aware of his or her actions regarding their own health and happiness does not allow others to take control over decisions he or she needs to make for him or herself and accepts personal accountability with regard to their well-being and the causes and consequences of their behavior.
Positivity - Wellness requires primarily positive perspectives and values by which to live. It also requires a strong sense of purpose and conscious, deliberate action. These are our starting points, however, they provide merely a simple framework. What you put inside that framework, and your willingness to do so, is totally up to you.
Balance - We all need balance in our lives. While acknowledging constant change is part of the nature of life, look to balance it by giving significant attention to each factor in your life. Lack of sufficient attention to any one area will result in less-than-optimal development as a person, and may possibly lead to chronic unhappiness.
Integral - Understand that your well-being is the outcome of the constant interaction between you and everything else in the universe. Each organism is interrelated with the others. The aim is to be conscious of your self as a whole and complete person, living life as fully as possible, and interacting with other living thing.
