I was shopping at my local health food store, Mrs. Green's Natural Market, and the word 'Fig' caught my eye for obvious reasons. :) The display featured six flavors of Fig Bars from Nature's Bakery. I love blueberry and was curious about the fig/blueberry combination.
Looking at the package, these fig bars are cholesterol free, dairy free, Kosher and Non-GMO with 0g of trans fat so I thought this might be a good product to recommend to clients who want a healthy treat. I brought the blueberry fig bar home, made a cup of tea and tried one. (There are two bars in the package, btw). Mmm. Good taste. Nice texture.
I turned over the package and noticed it contained 10 grams of sugar. Some sugar comes from the blueberry and fig paste and some is added in. Hmm. That's 2 1/2 teaspoons of sugar. Hmm. I wonder how many servings are in this package? Servings Per Container: 2. That's 5 teaspoons of sugar. The equivalent of 20 grams of sugar if you eat the whole package. On one hand, its better than a regular candy bar but, on the other, it's definitely not low in sugar.
